the name bantaba is derived from the word for a large tree,which is called bentennie in the mandinka language and its a traditional meeting place for the people of the village.bantaba is a common thing in africa and the caribbean. Which is known as gheto in the caribbean.the origins of this word is from the mandinka tribe of the  gambia for tree which is banta;and aba; means where to meet and so the two words combined together says bantaba,the equivalent of a gheto.today its describe as any wooden or cement construct which is located within the confines of a farmily compound or other property with a roof made out of grass or corrigated iron sheets with no pillas made out of wood or bamboo sticks the structure itself has no walls.up till now bantaba isa fantastic meeting place for villagers to have meetings followed by drumming,dancing,food and drink.
